Ahh Results Day, Far far away!
So here we are again... results day August 2024.
That makes it SIX YEARS since I quit teaching and I'm still going strong, somehow earning a living, and even having managed to earn enough over the last six years to slip some money into savings and completely avoid debt!
Results day makes me think back probably more than any other day of the year to that almost 20 years I spent in teaching...
Results Day (NB we are talking about A-level results day here!) always used to be bitter-sweet.
Our results were always generally very good, but of course there was always the odd individual student that did badly, and then there was the signalling of the beginning of the end of yer summer holiday.
Results day kind of dragged you back into that work headspace, with two-thirds of the holiday down, the evenings starting to get visibly shorter, you could feel the build up the return to school starting....
So while the day used to be good, especially early on, into college, 95% celebrations 5% commiserations, meet up with a few mates and then pub in the afternoon, beer garden, sun, bees floating around, it was NICE.
But all that beer just numbed the work chatter and background feeling of THE DREADED RETURN!
But not this year!
No, this year I am having a great results day!
I'm basically RN hanging around Crystal Palace in London waiting to head out for beers later on with a couple of ex-colleagues...
It's a lovely sunny morning, but not too hot, I've already done one hipster coffee shop with the best flat white I've ever had, and then I hit Crystal Palace Park where I made my own workspace: basically a bench...
And now it's coming up for 12.00 and I've got a CORNER SEAT AND A PLUG SOCKET in coffee shop 2!
I mean who needs a co-working space? At least not for 3 hours, and not when the local one looks not that great!
And laters I'm going a drinking.
I mean this is life, I am actually working this a.m. and earning, and results day is here but I am no longer in that headspace.
I mean I know my life is pretty good, but it's always worth reflecting on that fact consciously every now and then!
Have a good day all!
OH P.S. the national results are back to fully sensible levels after the Pandemic!

It's nice to open your laptop in the fresh air and not be in a rush. It's good when you are your own boss.
Yes I had quite a good morning to be fair, very enjoyable!
It would be better drink in the weekend :)
No, weekdays all the way when I have the chance!
It's wonderful to read these posts, they give serenity and also give a boost to improve and achieve goals, especially to those who have similar ones to those you have pursued.
A hug!
Cheers, and I had a good day too!
What did you move onto after 20 years of teaching? I've been mentally preparing to quit out of it for a while now, it's been about 15 years for me, but I think I'd rather get hospitalised by the school bully than take on an office job with the 'Gen Z Boss & a mini' lifestyle
I run a revision blog and earn ad revenue! I also do some social research interviewing. I'm doing OK out of them!
A blog helping music students could be pretty cool for me but I feel that market is so oversaturated perhaps in every subject, so extra credit for you being able to make it work!
