Getting Lost In the World To Find Joy

At one point I was worried about my overall health. It’s true that I’m usually worried, always imagining things taking a turn for the worst. I came to my Dad with these worries, and he promised to help me solve them. That led to us taking a walk/run the next day.

Since exercise is a great way to keep the body healthy, I was looking forward to this jogging trip and we left early.

Only problem was, I had no idea where we were headed. And neither did my Dad.

First we walked up the main road, where all the stores, people, and birds were out and about. We would alternate between walking and jogging on the side of the road, curving our walk path to avoid parked cars and drains.

We walked up the main road until we got to the end, where the road split, and then we walked out of the neighborhood to a road I never remembered going on before.

Shops became more spaced out and the road was more silent as people were absent. Eventually we were so far even Dad didn’t know where we were, and the cars to people ratio had become more lopsided. Except for long-distance joggers, we were the only people out there.

To the right of me was a huge thick clump of jungle, and to my left was a road with many lanes going in multiple directions full of cars that blurred by. A bridge went across the lanes as cars made loud whirring noises that faded as they whizzed by.

Despite how this sounds, I didn’t feel scared, or even worried. I was smiling as I stared at the tropical scenery and the breeze cooled me down .

Under the bridge at the side of the highway, sat a brown horse eating grass. He seemed so calm, his tail swaying as he munched away. Dad turned to me with a smile. “Do you want to take a picture?

We carefully crossed the road junction and approached slowly. When he lifted his neck up we knew he had seen us. I stood as close as I could without intruding on his space, and I took as many pictures as I could.

He was quite a sight, with his well trimmed bangs and white stripe going down his nose.

When I was done observing him, we continued our walk to a new part of the neighborhood. There were a bunch of signs advertising new apartments and lot’s of clearings which left huge bald spots in the greenery of the jungle.

I felt bad that the jungle was being shaved away for residential buildings, but it made the greenery to modern building scenery much more dramatic.

At some point we found an entryway back to our neighborhood, and Dad and I headed home.

Overall it was a great walk that made me feel great…and appreciate water and fruit! I'm working to have a more positive outlook on life, and a good walk with my father helped a bunch.
