Hal Finney!
Hello friends,
Today is an important day for the Bitcoin community. It is the anniversary of the death of Hal Finney, one of the greatest pioneers of this movement. He left us in 2014, but his influence continues to be felt every day we interact with Bitcoin. Rest in peace LEGEND!
Hal was more than a talented developer. He was one of the first people who really understood what Satoshi Nakamoto was trying to do with Bitcoin. In fact, he was the first human on earth to receive a Bitcoin transaction from Satoshi. That simple exchange, between two computers, was the spark that started the revolution we are living today.
He was also the first one to post the legendary message “Running Bitcoin” on Twitter in January 2009. At that moment, almost nobody cared about Bitcoin. But Hal did. He saw the potential long before the world was ready to listen.
What makes Hal’s story even more inspiring is that he kept contributing and staying positive even while suffering from ALS (ELA in spanish). This disease slowly paralyzed him, but it never broke his spirit. He kept coding, testing, and discussing Bitcoin. He faced one of the hardest battles in life, yet he did it with courage and optimism.
Hal believed in a future where Bitcoin could bring freedom, fairness, and hope to millions of people around the globe. Today we see Bitcoin growing, reaching institutions, countries, and everyday people. All of that is possible because early visionaries like Hal helped to build the foundations.
For me, remembering Hal is a reminder that Bitcoin is more than price action or speculation. It is about vision, perseverance, and the will to create something better.
We miss you Hal! Your work, your words, and your belief continue to guide us. And in some way, through every block mined, you are still “running Bitcoin.”
I hope you have a great day!
