Poker Update (2026-02-20)

Been busy in "real life" but had some time to play a little poker. Today while playing in a freebuy (free to enter but has options to purchase extra chips). I hit some random promo for what seems to be a finished promotional event. It's now later that same day and after being logged into the poker client for a hour or more I get this random pop up for a SCOOP Stars Spinner. Likely what I won earlier in the day but with corrupted visuals for an old promo that was almost identical.

The notification pop was while I was playing a 4 man kick-off game. A fast paced game that is over before it starts. SCOOP Stars Spinner: I was intrigued. In-fact I was so intrigued I sat out the game I bought in for to take screenshots of the process and spin I was about to take. What did I win? What were the prizes? I had no clue at the time of the popup - Lets find out!

If I took a minute to look at what the prizes said on the wheel it would of been a dead giveaway to what the prizes offered are but I purposely never gave it much thought. As I take the screenshots and click the spin option I get a popup letting me know I got KO'd from the kick-off game I registered for. Bugger - the excitement of finding out what this spin will reward had me forgetting I was in a game already. No big deal; the kick-off game was just $1.00 buy.

Looks like I won a Step 1 ticket which has a value of $0.50 cents. Let me tell you that was an interesting show of events that took place for such a prize. First an animation highlights my hand in a random tournament. Some hours later I get a pop up to spin the wheel for a prize. I do so and win a 50 cent ticket. I believe I bamboozled myself into thinking it was a one off spin that awarded actual scoop tickets for a milestone hand or the like. But hey, I'll take the 50 cent ticket. Can't complain about free. I have already used it to win a $1.50 ticket.

Now onto the third tournament that awards an $11 ticket. I pushed first hand with 66 half expecting to run into a flip or to be dominated. To my surprise when the next hand is dealt and action is back to me my table pops back up and I tripled up. You might think I got lucky and hit trips or something but no that is not what happened. My opponents called with A rags and worse. My 66 held and now I'm sitting with 30K in chips - 4th of 106 players with 30 moving on to stage 3 ($11 seat) that leads to the semi-finals worth $55.

The above is known as the power path series. Level one has two starting points (1) 0.50 buy in (2) $1.00 Buy in. Earning a $0.50 ticket is fairly easy to do. All players at Blue and Bronze Chest tiers on PokerStars can get one free Step 1 Power Path ticket every day, provided they generate at least $0.01 in rake on a given day (cash games or tournaments). A great deal if you ask me. If you are a cash player its a free shot at some high value tickets.

Side note: I had a small investment I turned into USD some years back that I never cashed out. I was reminded of such yesterday in an email that told me the holding account of my funds is moving to a new jurisdiction. I had less than 24hours to comply with some documents they needed. I decided to cashout my funds instead. I am now contemplating how to use those funds. I figure I waste half the funds by utilizing them in "real-life".

I will put the other half aside for my poker journey to be utilized in a to be determined manner. That's it for this post. I'm still in the $1.50 buy in tournament (Step 2). I'm up to 40K in chips. At one point I did have about 48K but someone played junk against me and hit. Currently I'm 14th of 74 with 30 winning a step 3 ticket. I'll tighten up from here on out to try and squeak by. I'll report how I done in my upcoming post. Edit: I end up winning the $11 ticket. The semi-final for a $55 tickets starts in 2 hours. I will unregister and use the ticket on another day.

I love that you sat out a live game just to document a glitchy popup! 😆Good luck in the next round!

And the reward was worth 50% of the sat out game.

Was still worth it :)

It is - in the pokerworld they can mean the difference between profit and a breakeven spiral. Rake can make a good player a losing player. Making added rewards essential to some.

Home games on the PS client allows restricted players to utilize their software.

I attempted to run some home games in the past.
I might do so again in the distant future.
