I'm in the process of creating a poker forum (Here is why)

WEB2 Sponsorship for Hive

As the title states I'm in the very early stages of creating a poker forum. I'm no dev so I'm learning as I go. I'll be taking shortcuts like using already open sourced plugins and the such. While I'm no dev I'm not completely oblivious on how to use some basic code. I did so some years back in the same manner I am doing now. By simply jumping into it. This forum is part of my plan to get WEB2 to sponsor Hive. My initial plan was to create a community or two here on Hive and use that as a soft launch. My second plan of action was to create a WEB2 poker forum. My Third plan of action was to create our home base here on the Hive Blockchain in the form of an outpost (achievable using TribalDex powered by Hive-Engine). I have decided to reorder my plan of action. First plan of action is now to create a WEB2 poker forum that will serve as a bridge. The main goals are still intact; () WEB2 Sponsorship for Hive () Create a bridge for WEB2 users to join Hive () put fiat directly in the pockets of others.

It took me some hours to get a site live

I fumbled multiple attempts doing it the hard way, manually transferring files and plug ins so my yet to be created forum is more customizable. This lead me to doing it the easy way which still had some unexpected roadblocks. I had to monitor and address multiple issues. Mostly searching/ finding and relocating files needed to make the site go live. I use the term "easy way" here very lightly. It is possible to get what I call a plug and play forum up and running almost instantly. Such forums are great for what they are and require very little upkeep. The downside is that there will be an ad placed on the forum owned by the devs who created the plug n play templates. Those devs will also have the say on if the lights go out on your forum or not. It's not likely they turn the lights off on you but with a long term mindset its best to not leave that type of control in a random persons hands. Long story short; I now have the beginnings of a live site that is destined to be a Poker Forum that isn't a plug n play type forum. I will put aside some time this week to build on it. It'll be awhile before I can share the URL.

Will I succeed (My credentials)

I like to think so but to be transparent: as many who are routine readers of the RentMoney blog might already know. I very much was in the online poker world before venturing to the Hive Blockchain. I was and am still a member (although an inactive member) of some of the largest online poker forums. I moderated at and technically still have admin rights at some mid tier forums. Mid tier in the form of number of sign ups not quality. I owned my own plug n play forum some years back that had 1000+ members. I merged that forum with another and became partners with them. That partner forum no longer exists. I hosted hundreds of online poker games that offered numerous prizes such as satellite tickets and freerolls with prize pools up to $2000 USD. Granted this was some years back and the landscape of poker has changed. I had more resources then than I do now. This is how re-entry works. Got to start at the beginning again but this time I start with experience. That is all I can say for now. I don't expect this to be all done in a short time span but action has been taken to make this all a reality. Worse case scenario; if I suck at being a dev for my own poker forum I'll pivot to one of those plug n play forums that I'm already familiar with. The WEB2 forum isn't meant to be our main home anyways. Its only meant to be a bridge and source to leverage WEB2 sponsorship for Hive.

Recent Tournament had me all in with six others

I played a series of tournaments today without much luck but I did have this gem of a hand. A rare occasion where my KK hold. Not only did they hold they held in a six way pot. A screenshot of the hand can be seen in the footer. You would think I made it ITM after such a massive pot but I managed to bubble (one away from ITM). My last hand of the tournament seen my AK suited UTG vs. the big blinds 33. I raised all in preflop, bb calls me for just 1/2 blind more and that was that. In hindsight if I folded there would of been a small chance I made it ITM (in the money) which was a satellite ticket. There were 3-4 players that were shorter than me out of the 101 players left in the game. That's it for now. If Poker and or WEB3 gaming is of interest go ahead and smash that follow button as the @rentmoney blog is full of such content. Doing so puts our content in your feed making it easier for you to find. Thanks for visiting us you are appreciated.

Looking forward to the upcoming Poker forum and competitions, might get me back into some poker! Been a while since I've played, but it's like riding a bike, you never forget it all in the first hand, right!?

your strategy of building a Web2 bridge first makes so much sense. Onboarding is the biggest hurdle for Hive, so meeting poker players where they already are (Web2) is a smart play

User acquisition and retention, if this works hopefully the forum + tournaments will help with both.

Exactly. Tournaments are the perfect 'hook' for retention. If there’s a regular game schedule, people will naturally keep coming back.

That's a great project you're starting, I wish you every success with it.
Let me know when it's ready, I'll definitely take a look.
