Pay Discrepancies in the Workplace: A Hidden Crisis
“Pay Discrepancy” is the most essential and controversial subject in the world nowadays; all of us are somehow related directly or indirectly to this issue. All of us often find this pay discrepancy in our society, and undeveloped countries and their rural areas are most affected. Even in a well-developed country, there is a pay discrepancy between males and females is observed, but the ratio is different and at a minimum. A male worker is physically stronger than a female worker. Males are physically stronger and enough strength than females, where physical strength is most required, and pay discrepancy is a normal thing. But where physical strength is not required and female workers are doing better than males, even there, we can see the pay discrepancy between male and female workers as well, which is not appropriate in general. But this pay discrepancy is present in our society for a long from our history, something like they are carrying their legacy for the pay discrepancy. Our society is ruled by men, and their egoistic, illegal, and illogical rules are the main obstacles to similar payrolls.
The poor people in rural areas are most affected and suffer from this pay discrepancy, and they are mentioned as reasons for their uneducated citizens and their mentalities. The World Labour Organization is trying to control this pay discrepancy from the very beginning, but no effective results have been seen as standard. Unfortunately, rectifying and similarising are far, far away from the actual position, which is really a big concern regarding pay discrepancy. Now, females are more efficient than males in some sectors, and they are well-educated and strongly compete with males, which is noticeable and appreciable; even then, the pay discrepancy is also present there. In some government services, where female applicants are considered for the said post, there is no pay discrepancy, also found in some private and NGO’s high officials. But with this poor ratio, we can not assure or judge the rights of the female workers.
My country is a developing country and is experiencing geometric economic growth, where females are contributing a lot to the industrial economy, especially in the garment industry. Unfortunately, gender is also a headache, and a pay discrepancy is also present on a large scale. Female workers are raising their voices and protesting in some cases, but no visible progress has been made on the pay discrepancy. In rural areas, the pay discrepancy is greater than in the capital city, where physical strength is required for farming. Due to the growing population, it is becoming more difficult to control or implement a sustainable pay rule and regulation among the gender classes. The present government is trying to manage the situation by engaging female workers at every stage and accumulating the pay-skilled oriented who could have the chance to reduce pay discrepancies. However, nothing is so easy to recover over a night; it will take time. Nevertheless, a positive approach shows hope there. The female education and its results are ambitious, which is noticeable, and an educated nation can change the scenario of these pay discrepancies. The egoistic male ruling society is also changing their thoughts about female work, but another obstacle is religion, where men are more conservative in this respect.
From my point of view, we can change the traditional pay discrepancies by educating females, creating a workaholic atmosphere for them, paying attention to female appointments, raising awareness in society, and government strong rules along with the World Labor Organisation’s help. If the nation achieves sufficient education and it will gradually change the mentality of males in society. A sector and skill-wise area for the equivalent pay scales where physical strength is not mandatory could be chosen, and take the initiative to implement that equal pay roll for every worker, where gender doesn’t affect. Also can start from a city where the work will be considered, and there will be no difference between male and female, and the salaries or wages will be the same. By implementing the rules and ensuring gender equality could be more effective and easier, gradually the whole country could be covered with this equality for the same work, where gender won’t be counted anymore. A poor attitude towards gender should be abandoned from our society, and we hope can see a bright economic future by hands on hands-on work together without any classification of genders and pay discrepancies at all.
