🐦 PhotoFeed Contest - Wildlife Photography Round 37
It's my entry for the #photofeed contest by @photofeed, for the wildlife theme .
🦉 The spotted nutcracker, Eurasian nutcracker, or just nutcracker (Nucifraga caryocatactes macrorhynchos)
📚 Nucifraga Latin: nux - walnut, frangere - to smash, crush
📚 caryocatactes Greek: karyon - walnut, katagnumi - crush
📚 macrorhynchos Greek: macros large, long, rhynkhos beak
I meet these birds very far outside the city. This coniferous forest is long and hard to get to. I saw a pair of these birds swarming in the ground, throwing up dry leaves and coniferous needles. I came closer and saw that they were finding something there, hiding something.
This bird is known for hiding pine nuts in the ground. And it doesn't always come back. So they germinate there in the ground and grow. Thanks to this, the forest is replenished. Somewhere not far from my city, in some village, a monument was erected to this bird, like a bird thanks to which our forests are alive.
