🦉 The common rosefinch (Carpodacus erythrinus)

  • Carpodacus Greek: karpos fruit, daknō to bite
  • erythrinus erythros (Greek, lat.) red

This bird is difficult to confuse with anything else, except perhaps the young and females, which are very similar in appearance to sparrows. However, the male has a distinctive bright pink coloration that becomes brighter and more intense with age. This "pink sparrow" can be found in open spaces overgrown with bushes, in river floodplains and on forest edges.

The bird is entirely herbivorous, and its diet includes various grass and tree seeds, buds and flower buds, nuts, as well as berries and fruits.
However, when rearing nestlings, parents feed them a mix of seeds and a small amount of insects.
