🦉 The Eurasian bullfinch, common bullfinch or bullfinch (Pyrrhula pyrrhula)

  • Pyrrhula (Greek): pyrrhos - red

These beautiful plump birds become noticeable with the arrival of late autumn. This is due to their migrations; they primarily inhabit coniferous forests, less frequently mixed forests, and with the arrival of cold weather, they prefer to move to where food is available.

During this time, they feed primarily on rowan berries, or more precisely, they crack open the berries and eat the pits. In very cold weather, they eat box elder seeds, which are rich in fatty acids, essential in cold weather.
