🦉 The Eurasian treecreeper or common treecreeper (Certhia familiaris)
- Certhia (Greek): kerthios - a small bird crawling through the trees, mentioned by Aristotle
- familiaris (lat.): common, easily recognizable
This silent and inconspicuous bird, with its rounded shape and tweezers-like bill, is insectivorous, as you might guess. However, with the arrival of autumn, it doesn't fly away to warmer climates or even to warmer regions. Winter is a difficult time for them, as unlike other birds, their beaks are unable to crack and shell nuts and large seeds. Therefore, they actively search for insects under tree bark crevices and also eat small seeds from trees such as birch.
