🦉 The brambling (Fringilla montifringilla)

  • Fringilla (lat.) Finch; fi nco (old German)
  • montifringilla lat .: mōns, montis mountain, mountain range

I don't often encounter these birds in the forests near my town. And that only happens in the spring. I've seen them in late March, when there was still snow, but mostly in late April. Unlike their closest relatives, the Chaffinch, these birds are difficult to photograph; for some reason, they're more timid.

Moreover, if you play their voices on your phone's speaker to attract them, they barely respond.
Unlike the Chaffinch, their song is completely different; it's not melodic and can hardly be called a song at all. It's simply a sharp buzzing sound.
