🦉 The common cuckoo (Cuculus canorus)

  • Cuculus (lat.) cuckoo
  • canorus (lat.) melodic, musical

Despite the fact that cuckoos live in forests, I most often meet these birds in the meadow. The fact is that their victims live in these places, to whom they lay their eggs in the nest. And every year, at the beginning of May, I watch as yellow wagtails or stonechats become their victims.

This diversion looks like this: the male can sit on a branch of a bush and call, distracting the birds from the female, who secretly enters the victim's nest and lays an egg. By the way, these photos are of a male. The female is different in color, she is red, and unfortunately I have not yet managed to take a photo of her.
