🦉 The willow tit (Poecile montanus)

  • Poecile poikilis (Greek) an unidentified small bird mentioned in ancient texts
  • montanus (lat .) : mōns, montis mountain, mountain range, montanus mountain

These fidgety, energetic birds are real fidgets. They are constantly on the move, from branch to branch, from tree to tree, in constant search of food. And only in the spring, during the mating season, can they be seen sitting motionless on a branch and singing a song. And their song is beautiful, melancholic, consisting of high whistles. Which contrasts greatly with their hoarse calls and babbling signals.

Despite the fact that this is a wild bird, they are found in city parks and groves where people walk and bird feeders are located. The bird is very easy to tame and will sit on your hand without fear if you treat it with seeds or nuts.
