🦉 The Eurasian jay (Garrulus glandarius brandtii )

  • Garrulus lat.: garrire to chat, babble, chirp, garrulus talkative, chirping, noisy; ax prone to..
  • glandarius glandis, glans (lat.) acorn
  • brandtii brandti, Fedor Fedorovich Brandt (Johann Friedrich von Brandt, 1802–1879), Russian zoologist and physician.

I meet these beautiful corvid birds only with the arrival of autumn. Apparently at this time they migrate through different forests in search of food. I read that they avoid birch forests, maybe that is why in spring and summer they are not in the forests closest to my city.

These birds feed on various berries, seeds, insects. On occasion, they eat small rodents, lizards, frogs, small fish, and other small birds. They also eat eggs and nestlings from nests.
