🦉 The western yellow wagtail (Motacilla flava)

  • Motacilla lat .: mōto, mōtare move continuously, -cilla tail (cilla like a tail - only in ornithology, erroneous established name)
  • flava flavus (lat.) yellow, gold, golden yellow

Unlike its urban relative, the white wagtail, this brightly coloured bird arrives in early May.
And you can meet it exclusively in open areas, such as fields, meadows, coasts. Specifically, these birds from my photos were met by me in meadows on the outskirts of the city. In May, they are clearly visible until there are dense thickets.

Its behavior is the same as that of the white wagtail. It quickly walks on the ground, wagging its long tail, and grabs insects.
The nest is built in a hole under a grass bush, from dry grass and lined with hair and a small amount of feathers.
