🦉 Baraba Steppe Gull (Larus barabensis)
- Larus laros (Greek), larus (Latin) seagull; sea bird
- barabensis - Barabinskaya steppe

This seagull is not immediately distinguishable from its relatives. It is either a young "laughing gull" or a "herring gull". It is interesting that even ornithologists argued for a long time: is this a separate species or just a hybrid? Now it has been proven that this is an independent bird, although intermediate in all characteristics.

It is found mainly near steppe lakes, where it catches insects and small fish. Unlike other seagulls, Barabinsky gulls circle around people and are not as cautious as completely wild species.
Every year I come to visit my relatives and I constantly see these seagulls sitting on the roofs of houses, robbing pigeons, and rummaging through garbage bins.
