🦉 The Eurasian bullfinch, common bullfinch or bullfinch (Pyrrhula pyrrhula)
- Pyrrhula (Greek): pyrrhos - red

These cute plump birds are like a bright red spot against the winter snow. More precisely, only the males are like that, with a bright red chest and a gray back. The females are much more modest, their outfit is muted beige tones, or as I like to say "the color of chocolate ice cream."
These birds become noticeable in winter, when flocks fly to cities to feed on ash or rowan seeds and visit bird feeders. But in summer they are almost invisible, flying away to dense coniferous forests, where they quietly acquire offspring.

It is curious that, despite their brightness, bullfinches are quite silent and modest. In late autumn and winter you can hear their soft whistling call, and in spring, if you are lucky, you will hear a very quiet song that resembles the creaking of a swing.
