🦉 The song thrush (Turdus philomelos)
- Turdus (lat) - Thrush
- philomelos - Greek: phileo to love, melos song; philomela nightingale. According to ancient Greek mythology Philomela - the daughter of Pandion the First, king of Athens, was raped by Tereus, the husband of her sister Procne (or Progne), who, to hide the crime, tore out her tongue. Zeus, out of compassion, turned Philomela into a nightingale and Procne into a swallow. Pandion died of grief after learning about the tragedy in his family, and Zeus turned him into an osprey.

This thrush is not numerous in the forests of my city, it is much rarer than other species. But it has a very melodic song with sad minor sounds.
They arrive at the end of April when the snow has just melted. The birds climb higher into the trees so that they can be heard well, and sit motionless singing a song. And this is very different from other species of thrushes, which are constantly on the move and very fussy.

I don't know when they fly away, because as I said, they are rare and very quiet after the mating season. But I met them a couple of times even in October, when, for example, the redwing thrush had long since flown away.

Хорошие дроздики, только что-то грустные. У нас к сожалению в этом году их очень мало, хотя рябины будет хороший урожай.
