πŸ¦‰ The Siberian stonechat or Asian stonechat (Saxicola maurus)

  • Saxicola (lat ): saxum rock, stone, -cola inhabitant
  • maurus (lat.): Moorish, black

This small representative of the flycatcher family stands out due to its contrasting coloring: males have a black head with a bright white neck and orange chest, while females are brownish with speckles.
These birds prefer open landscapes such as meadows, valleys, clearings and fields. In spring they arrive in early May, and the males actively guard the territory, sitting on the tops of bushes or grass stems and emitting sharp alarm calls.

Nests are built on the ground, camouflaged in the grass. The female is responsible for building the nest, collecting the necessary material from around the area, while the male guards the territory and the female. By the end of July, you can see fledglings, who at first stay close to their parents.
