🦉 The long-tailed tit or long-tailed bushtit (Aegithalos caudatus)

  • Aegithalos (Greek): tit
  • caudatus (lat.): tailed

This cutest bird resembles a fluffy ball with a long tail, which is almost twice as long as the body. They are almost never alone. They move in small flocks, constantly calling to each other with squeaky calls. If one bird finds food, the rest immediately fly in, but without fighting, unlike sparrows.

They feed on small insects, carefully searching thin branches, in winter they eat small plant seeds.
You won't see them at the feeders, they physically can't crumble seeds and nuts like nuthatches or tits do, so if a mixed flock flies, for example, to a park where there are feeders with food, then in rare cases they can be under the feeders, eating crumbs left by other birds.
