πŸ¦‰ The European goldfinch or simply the goldfinch (Carduelis carduelis)

  • Carduelis carduus (Latin) thistle

This bird is easily recognized by its bright red, black and yellow head and wings. Goldfinches can often be seen sitting on the tops of weeds, such as burdock, whose seeds they deftly pull out with their thin beaks. And this happens in mid-July, when their young grow up, and then they raid the clearings with these plants in family flocks.

Their song is a fast, chaotic trill with whistles, which is why goldfinches are often kept in cages at home. In winter, they gather in flocks and migrate in search of food, sometimes visiting city feeders, where they adore sunflower seeds.
