πŸ¦‰ The great tit (Parus major)

  • Parus (lat.) Tit
  • major (lat.) large

One of the most recognizable birds in our area, these tits can be found almost everywhere all year round: from dense forests to city parks and in the courtyards of multi-story buildings.
They are very active and restless, they are constantly on the move: jumping from branch to branch, exploring tree trunks and leaves, for which in the old days people called them "grasshopper tit"

They feed mainly on insects (in spring and summer), seeds and berries. In winter they willingly eat unsalted lard, sunflower seeds and other feed. However, in summer they can also eat plant food instead of insects. The pair that lives in my yard definitely comes to peck peanuts a couple of times a day. After all, there is a lot of competition from other insectivorous birds in the yard, and they are now busy feeding their offspring, and constantly hunting, so in between their work they fly to my window to eat peanuts.
