These birds look quite cute: silky pink plumage, black velvet mask, scarlet drops on the wings and that famous crest. But the main decoration is the yellow specks on the tail, similar to drops of wax (for which they received the Latin name "Bombycilla" - "silk tail").

Unlike most birds, waxwings become more noticeable in winter. Their flocks, with a melodic ringing, raid rowan, viburnum and other fruit and berry trees. Watching them deal with the berries is a special pleasure: the bird deftly swallows the berry whole, throwing back its head.

But their gluttony comes back to haunt them. Frozen berries accumulate in their crops and the bird simply freezes and falls down from the tree. Many people mistakenly believe that they are drunk from fermented berries, but this is not true, far from the truth. Birds are found from mid-October to early May.
