Birdwatching - 3020 🐦

Honestly, I'm not 100% sure if I identified the species of this bird correctly. But judging by the pattern on the wings, the colors of the head and the shapes, it is -

🦉 The European honey buzzard (Pernis apivorus), also known as the pern or common pern

  • Pernis - pernēs (греч.) хищная птица, упомянутая Аристотелем
  • apivorus - lat.: apis bee, vorare to devour

I met this bird in a coniferous forest far outside the city and populated areas. The bird was flying over an area where there was a dry swamp.

I heard that this bird is special. By the way, we call it "wasp eater".
The bird's face and legs have very dense scales, like armor, which protect against bee and wasp stings.

But also, in addition to stinging insects, this predator feeds on small rodents, lizards and small birds.
