š¦ The Eurasian three-toed woodpecker (Picoides tridactylus)
- Picoides picus (lat.) woodpecker, -oides similar
- tridactylus tridaktylos (Greek) three-toed

It's been a long time since I've seen these woodpeckers. As you might guess from their name, they only have three toes on their feet, not four like other woodpecker species. In addition, the males have a yellow cap, not red like all other woodpeckers.

I remember I was always surprised by meeting them. They never climbed higher than 2 meters along the tree trunk. And they were not afraid of me, I approached them at a fairly close distance.
