Birdwatching - 2126 🐦
🦉 Pallas's grasshopper warbler (Helopsaltes certhiola), also known as the rusty-rumped warbler
obsolete name - Locustella certhiola
- Helopsaltes - ? To be honest, my etymological reference book does not contain such a name; it was obviously given to the bird quite recently.
- certhiola - diminutive of Certhia ((Greek) a small tree-crawling bird mentioned by Aristotle
- Locustella (lat.) diminutive of locusta grasshopper; cricket
We call this family of birds - crickets. The common cricket is easily recognized by its voice, it literally sounds like an insect cricket. However, the "singing cricket" which is discussed in this post has a song.
I found this friend in the coastal area in the spring, where there are plenty of bushes, which hints at the habitat of this bird.
I believe it was a male, he was sitting inside a bush and singing a song, which interested me. It turns out I had already met this type of bird before, but on the other bank, in the meadows.
