🦉 The black kite (Milvus migrans)

These birds arrive early in the spring, at about the same time as the finches. As a rule, this happens in the very first days of April. At first they appear in the suburbs, forests, and then they can be seen in the city courtyards. Since they are mostly scavengers, they love dumps and garbage bins. I constantly see kites dragging something out of the garbage, some scraps, and eating them right on the fly.

However, they can also catch other food, but they do it reluctantly. For example, in the river they catch fish that swim close to the surface of the water, they pull it out right from there. Or they can hunt rodents. I once saw a kite catch a squirrel.
