π¦ The common redpoll or mealy redpoll (Acanthis flammea)
π Acanthis in ancient Greek. mythology daughter of Autonous and sister Acanthus; when Acanthis sobbed over the murdered Acanthus, the gods turned her into a bird.
π flammea lat.: flamma flame, fire, fiery color flammeus
With the advent of winter, you can meet not only large flocks of waxwings in the forest. But also these little birds. But unlike waxwings, redpolls are not seen in the courtyards of the city because of their food preferences.
These birds in winter feed mainly on the seeds of small plants, and most often you can see how they raid birch trees in a large flock where they feast on seeds from birch catkins.
They also come down to eat wormwood seeds.
It is easy to distinguish a male from a female, males have bright pink spots on the chest.

I love the wee red patch on their head.
