Unproductive courses should be banned
Nigeria is still classified as a developing country even in this 21st century. Technology is taking over the world, yet we are not so feeling the impact here. Well, that's due to some reasons best known to those of us living in the country and those keeping tabs on Nigeria, that's a topic for another day. When it comes to education, why do we go to school? Well, different people have different opinions and answers to this question. Some will say to get formal or Western knowledge; some will say to learn how to read, write, and communicate in English in order not to be an outcast in a foreign country. Whatever the reason may be education is very important as it plays a vital role in one's business, career, or profession.
Some might say we can learn most of the things we learn in school even without going to school, well they might be right to some extent, but not one hundred percent right from my point of view. Yet, as good as my education is, some courses are not favorable in this particular country where I belong, which, if one eventually studies them, is a waste of time, resources, and energy. In a country like mine, you have to study a course that is productive and lucrative which even at the end of your study, you probably won't get employed with it, you can be self-employed with what you studied. But in cases of courses that have no grip or firm foundation, firstly, the certificate you suffered years to achieve would be useless, and then that course added no value to your life; what then is the essence of wasting so much on such a course?
Courses like botany, zoology, linguistics, history, physical education, philosophy, sociology, horticulture, early childhood education, religious study, library science, and anthropology to mention but a few are courses that I consider useless or of no relevance in Nigeria yet many go to the universities to study these courses and at the end, they ended up as private primary school teachers taking basic science and social studies. One of my cousins studied linguistics and, to gain employment became a thug of war as no company employs a linguist for any reason. Thanks to the connection, she was able to secure a banking job after 2 years of going about with a BSc in linguistics. Her younger sister studied library science, tho she entered university at the age of 14, I want to exclaim too, but that was how their parents ran their academics. All in the name of wanting to go to the university, she accepted admission to study library science, and today, as a graduate of that, she is teaching in a private school in Ibadan. What's the rush when you can study a lucrative course that is independent even if you are not employed by the certification? The main reason why I was adamant about studying a course in the
medical line. These are independent and useful courses in human daily lives.
One piece of advice for people in affected fields is to develop themselves with other skills, not limiting themselves to what they study alone. Learning more from other fields and applying their learnings to become a better person rather than solely relying on the course they studied. Gone are the days when people say, "Jack of all trades, master of none", in this present country of mine, you have to know one or two courses or skills different from what you studied or learned in order not to be stranded because unexpected situations can arise at any point when one is less expected or prepared. Once you know what you studied can't be productive, go out of your way to acquire more knowledge about other means that can fetch you what you desire and need for survival.
Thanks for your time, and your comments will be appreciated.

All areas are important and have a certain degree of relevance to society. However, like you, I have the same opinion of areas that produce nothing for people's daily lives, such as philosophy, art, among others.
Yeah so right
In reality, I would not remove any courses, rather I would add subjects that are really necessary to incorporate today, that really serve the student and prepare them for life immediately.
A better choicrr
Courses and books that may not be of any use to us in the near future and there are books that have been taught to us for a long time and will continue to do so because they have to charge their fees to the children.
