Looking at the manufacturing of mobile phones, it began with simple principles of physics and engineering. The phones made in the old days were bulky, expensive, and had limited functionality. The beauty of this is that as science advances in knowledge so is innovation. The smartphones today are products of advanced science, computer engineering, and software development.

One of the success stories in the science of innovation is the smartphone that was developed through several research studies, which helped the manufacturers to pack more power into smaller devices. Technology really helped by not limiting mobile phones to the hardware level alone, the integration of software such as mobile operating systems, such as Android and IOS, which opened up new opportunities. Do you know that app development has been an innovation on its own? I'm so glad that one of my junior brothers is on this part. This is allowing users to turn their mobile phones into tools for education, health monitoring, entertainment, and even financial transactions. I remember my parents told me that during their courtship, there were no mobile phones and they lived far away from each other. They've once missed each other's visit because there wasn't a means of communication. Another advancement was the development of 4G and now 5G networks even though the 5G is not yet in my area. They have drastically improved Internet speed and connectivity, making real-time video calls and remote collaboration possible, especially important in a post-pandemic world.

Science of innovation does not happen in isolation, it involves continuous experimentation, user feedback, and the willingness to embrace failure because before this success was achieved, several mistakes seemed they be failures, but they never gave up. Just so you know, foldable phones which is a new innovation. My neighbour is using a Samsung fold. You can imagine how cool that phone is. This new innovation is a result of years of research into flexible display technology, though initial versions had flaws.

Mobile phones exemplify the science of innovation in action. From hardware to software, every feature in modern smartphones started from scientific exploration and creative problem-solving. The science of innovation will remain the force behind the next wave of technological breakthroughs. Science is not confined to the laboratories alone, it is embedded in the devices we carry about in our pockets every day.
