The morning that changed everything
"I've been on this shit for months, why are they doing this to me?", Nina muttered. "Anyway, que sera sera", she said as she lay on her bed to sleep.
Nina is a writer; she has written several books, but none have been published. Her books were not accepted by the Writers' Guild for publication. She recently wrote a book, which she thought would liberate her, and had been pushing it for publication for 8 months, but was rejected.
"I guess I'll just share them in schools and read in my leisure time", Nina said as she finally fell asleep.
Nina doesn't wake up early, though she sets an alarm every day, but in the end, she shuts off the alarm and goes back to sleep. That's her daily routine since she's self-employed but that morning was different. Nina woke up before her 7am alarm rang. Staring at the chandelier in her room, a notification popped up on her mobile phone. She ignored it because she thought it was the regular mobile network's early messages, but the notification light continued to blink, which caught her attention. She picked up her phone to check the message, and it was an email. She opened it and saw "Congratulations, Nina! Your book has been accepted for publication".
At first, she thought she was dreaming. She immediately sat up and went over the mail over and over again. This was a book she had been trying to publish for over 8 months with several rejected letters and sleepless nights. She pressed her hand against her mouth as tears rolled down her cheeks. The publisher is Kenneth Moore one of the biggest names in the industry. It is a dream come true for Nina.
"Wait, is this real? Is my book really accepted by Kenneth Moore? Oh my gosh! Really?", she said in excitement.
She dashed out of bed, ran outside, and nearly fell over the blanket to the dining room where her younger sister Mary was munching cereal, ready to leave for work.
"They said yes Mary", Nina happily said.
Mary looked at her in surprise with her eyes rolled up, "Who said yes? You are out of bed early today, hope all is well?".
"My book, they have agreed to publish my book. Kenneth Moore will publish my book", Nina said jumping.
"Oh my! What! You did it, Nina. Congratulations, sister, wow, this is huge", Mary said happily, hugging Nina.
Tears ran freely through Nina's eyes, This was the day she had imagined for a long time. She ran back to the room, picked up her phone, called her mother, best friend, and everyone who believed in her when she was just a girl with a big dream.
The rest of the day was filled with congratulatory messages, calls, and emails from people who had once criticised her and all her loved ones. The news was posted on a writer's group where she was nearly ignored because of how they looked down on her, but surprisingly, the atmosphere changed. They were all congratulating her. This was a golden moment for Nina.
This was a girl who had always kept her stories in drawers and with no hope whatsoever, that morning, she received the best news of her life. This was the first time she believed without fear.
Thanks for your time and your comments will be appreciated.
