Tackling poverty and increasing human capital; A presidential priority
As a citizen of a country, there are some certain rights that one is entitled to but it's so unfortunate these days to know that most of these rights are no longer available. We are made to know that, there is freedom of speech, but yet freedom after speech is not certain. Which makes everyone endure whatever it is they are going through in their country. For a country to grow, its citizens must be enjoying the administration of the government. There is no joy in the hearts of citizens going through different pains everyday in a country where survival is a thug of war.
Everyone desires a comfortable life, having all basic amenities made available. If I were to become a president of my country, my first responsibility would be to confront the two most pressing challenges that citizens in my country face. These issues are deeply connected and must be addressed together to create a lasting change. A country cannot prosper and grow when its citizens are hungry, jobless, uneducated, and unhealthy. By finding a lasting solution to these problems, a developed nation is achievable.
First is tackling poverty and unemployment. This is one of the top problems we're facing in my country. Countless numbers of citizens face daily hardship due to lack of income and job opportunities. Over the years, many leaders have governed, each going by the way that suits him or her to make a change in the financial sector of the nation, but all to no avail. It is only getting worse yearly; no solution has been found to reduce the poverty rate in the country. Some do say everyone cannot be rich; that's delusional thinking that would never allow a country or a society to grow. To solve this, I would invest heavily in sectors that can generate mass employment, such as agriculture, construction, and digital services. These are the most used sectors in any country; taking, for example, mechanising agriculture and supporting local farmers would increase food production and also create jobs in rural areas.
Apart from this, I will also support small and medium-sized enterprises through loans, workshops, training, and access to markets. While making this possible, I will also establish vocational training centres across the country which would equip young people with practical skills they need to thrive in the economy. Solving the problem of unemployment would empower citizens, reduce crimes, and enhance economic growth and development. It will erase the fear of being educated and not getting any job to do at the end of spending fortunes and years in school. Unemployment and poverty would be a thing of the past in my country, as everyone would be engaged with one or two and also contributing to the nation's economy.
Secondly, improving access to quality education and healthcare is essential for a country's growth. Education is the genesis of any successful society. I would make basic education free and compulsory, train more teachers, and upgrade school facilities, especially in underdeveloped areas. I would also promote digital learning and provide scholarships to help bright but disadvantaged students continue their studies. You can imagine nursery and primary school pupils paying over one million naira as school fees; that's so ridiculous. Healthcare is also one of the major problems faced in my country. Many citizens still suffer or die from preventable diseases because they cannot afford proper treatment. As president, I would invest in modern hospitals, ensure a regular supply of drugs, and improve health insurance schemes so that every citizen, regardless of income, can access care. These would be my first two major projects as a president because healthy, educated, poverty-free citizens are the true wealth of a nation.
