"We have a new girl in class, her name is Yetunde. She seems to come from a wealthy home", Sandra explained to Tope outside the classroom as she was coming from home.

"You have gotten her name already? Well, good for her; we don't need a third party in our circle", Tope replied Sandra.

"Relax, Tope, she seems cool; I'm sure you will be glad to know her more", Sandra said as she entered the classroom with Tope.

Yetunde had just resumed Amelia High School; she joined the second-year students, which happened to be Sandra and Tope's class.

"That's the new girl sitting on your seat", Sandra whispered into Tope's ear.

"Why is she sitting on my seat? Who asked her to?", Tope asked as he moved closer to where Yetunde was sitting.

"Hello, madam, good morning; you're in my seat, kindly excuse me," Tope said firmly.

"Come on Tope try to be nice, she is a new girl", another student in the class said.

"Mind your business, please, and the last time I checked, I wasn't talking to you", Tope replied rudely.

Yetunde stood up, packed her bags, and went to the back, where there was an empty seat.

"Why do you have to be so harsh? You could have shared the seat with her; the three of us could sit. The bench is big enough and we are not fat.

"Oh! I see, so it was your idea for her to sit here. I'm not stopping you from being her friend, but don't bug me with unnecessary attachments, please", Tope said sternly.

Gradually, Sandra and Yetunde began getting closer as friends, and Yetunde did tell her lots of things about herself. In some of their discussions, Yetunde told Sandra and some of their classmates who do talk to her that she is a princess as her dad is a king and that her driver always drops her at school every morning. She said she chose to go home in the evening by herself just to have the same experience as other students and that she doesn't like to flaunt her father's wealth. Tope never believed anything she said because she told Sandra her spirit was not right with Yetunde.

Those who believe Yetunde is from a wealthy home do hang around her as she tells them different stories daily. One afternoon during their free period in class, Tope decided to join their discussion when she heard Yetunde telling them that her father owns the favorite mall in their city. Many of them listening to her had a doubt about that because the mall she was talking about belonged to the ex-governor of the state. Immediately, she said that; Tope objected and told Yetunde that the mall belonged to the ex-governor, and everyone in the city knew that.

"How come the mall belongs to your dad? Is it that your dad and the ex-governor are friends? Probably they built it together, but then you can't say it belongs to your dad", Tope replied, trying to get a response, but instead, Yetunde changed the topic.

Then, some of her classmates started having doubts about her real identity. Tope, who never believed anything Yetunde said, decided to investigate who she truly was.

"Yetunde are you living with your parents? And where are you living? I do see you heading towards the post office after school" Tope asked curiously.

"Of course, Tope, I'm living with my parents, and towards the post office is where I will board a bus to my house. Our palace is colored white, it is very popular in my area. Just take a bus going to Tanke, you will drop at Palms hotel, turn right, the first gate in that street is my house. Come in through the gate you will see our palace", Yetunde explained.

Tope took note of the address and she promised to find out the truth. She collected Yetunde's number and told some of the students her plan. Those who had a doubt about Yetunde's identity wanted to go with her to see for themselves. They fixed Saturday afternoon to pay her a surprise visit.

Unknown to Yetunde the plan Tope and the other student had. On Saturday, they met at the agreed destination and headed to Yetunde's house following her description. On getting to the Palms hotel, they asked a man standing in front of the hotel where the palace colored white is located, and the man gave them a description similar to what Yetunde gave them. They entered the street, and just at the front of the first gate, they saw the white palace because the gate was opened, but in the compound, there was another house colored brown on the right side while the palace was on the left side. As they were about to head towards the palace, one of the students heard Yetunde's voice arguing with someone at the back of the brown house. They all became confused but decided to check as it was Yetunde's voice. They decided to peep; Tope was first in line; she walked slowly and peeped only to see Yetunde lighting a traditional cooking ware that uses charcoal. It is called charcoal pot while her mom was shouting at her to be fast with it so that she can do other things.

Tope told them what she had seen, and they decided to reveal themselves to Yetunde. They all shouted her name and on seeing them, she was scared, confused, and ashamed because of all the lies she had told them.

"We came to say hello to you and to see the beautiful palace of yours but it seems the story is different now with everything we are seeing. Definitely, you are not a princess, and every story you've told us was a lie", Sandra, who was shocked, said.

Yetunde's mother came out and saw the students. She greeted them as they introduced themselves as Yetunde's classmates.

"Nice to meet you all, your friend didn't tell me you will be coming. I would have prepared something for you all.

"Don't bother me. We wanted to check on Yetunde, and we've seen that she is fine. We will be on our way, ma", Tope said, disappointed.

"Yetunde, the big girl, well done, or do you need help in lighting that?" another student said, pointing to the charcoal pot.

Yetunde couldn't answer them because she was ashamed. She suddenly became humble and quiet as her secret was known. They left, and as they were about to step out of the gate, they saw the real princess of the king and the king was from another tribe entirely different from Yetunde's, which means they were not related. On getting to school on Monday, Tope and other students who visited Yetunde narrated all they saw to their classmates and everyone passed one or two comments on Yetunde's character. She wasn't in school on Monday as she was too ashamed to face the class, and since then, no one ever believed what she said.

Thanks for your time and your comments will be appreciated.

Her mask fell, and everyone discovered the truth. It seems Yetunde will no longer boast about what she doesn't have. A very entertaining story.

Thanks for sharing your story with us.

Good Monday.

I'm glad she was caught. If not, she would continue lying about who she is not. Happy new week

I don't think I can ever understand the concept of people lying or pretending to be what they are not, just to please or get the approval of others.

Like, why care what people might think if they know who you really are.

And It's not like they'll end up finding out she's just a maid and not a princess, if she does not say anything at all.

Nice writing ✍️ 👌
