A yes or no to phone

Many will say a big thank you to technology in our present world today. I must say technology has helped humans in several ways which cannot be hidden. The genesis of technology was what brought mobile phones into the limelight; I'm sure you will agree with me. Although it was a gradual process, Rome wasn't built in a day, they said, which is true. There was a time when the only means of communication was a land phone; gradually, technology took a new turn, and small phones couldn't access the Internet, but then technology reached its peak when smartphones were manufactured, and they became gadgets everyone could access.

Smartphones have become so accessible that children who don't have use for them are all going about with them, which, if I'm asked, I would say it's inappropriate and calls for parents' actions. In response to this prompt topic, I believe there is a right age when students or a child should be allowed to possess a mobile phone. While growing up, I wasn't given the chance to have access to a mobile phone until I graduated from secondary school. Then I was so sad because all my friends had one and I had to keep hoping for my parents to get me one.

Thanks to technology again, we've graduated from searching via the Google search engine. We now have artificial intelligence (AI) being installed on mobile phones which we can easily access. This is like a messiah to students, they want to use AI for everything. If it's possible that AI can write exams for them, they will gladly allow it to. Should the use of phones be allowed in school? In answering this question, I would love to sit on the fence in order not to be biased. I am also a student and sometimes it is so necessary to use mobile phones to get through some questions. If the use of phones should be banned, then how will I solve difficult questions that I can't with textbooks?

A scenario happened in school today, I had an organic chemistry test and the questions were nothing to write home about. I sat and didn't know what to write because I had never come in contact with the questions in my textbook; where then were these questions picked from? Unfortunately, we were not allowed to use our phones. If we were given the privilege to use our phones, we would have answered all the questions with the help of AI. Without my mobile phone, I already knew what I scored on the test. Using phones for tests or examinations is regarded as cheating and examination malpractice.

Will it make things easier for the student in the long run? If I were to answer this, my answer would be no. Allowing phones in classes and tests will simply make things worse and the lives of students will be put in jeopardy as they will not be willing to read on their own again since AI will be readily available to help them solve any questions. Its negative long-term effects are that it will reduce critical thinking skills, it will increase cheating and academic dishonesty, serve as a distraction, have a high rate of dependency on technology, and lead to cognitive and memory impacts. Overuse of phones can lead to shallow learning as students might focus on memorization rather than deep understanding. Therefore, phones should not be allowed during tests.

Thanks for your time and your comments will be appreciated.

Had it been you used Ai to answer the question, you may have gotten the answer but that does not translate to knowing or understanding that topic.
It's better to use Ai like other study materials; before the exam.
I hope you do better in the result than you expected. Good luck

I also don't think it's a good idea that students use their phones in class when lectures are on or during tests. It will make a bunch of them lazy, and some will lose the zeal to study since AI can do all the work.

I agree with you. Using phones during learning is totally fine. But using it in tests makes the test itself obsolete I believe. Rather, if we understand what the test wants us to know, in order to answer, I will take it as a win, even if we cannot answer them properly in the given moment. I believe understanding what I am expected of is the key. And AI won't help in that front.

I completely agree with you, teenagers who use cell phones all the time outside of class, during class, don't make much sense, they only serve as a distraction and this harms them.

Allowing phones during tests is no longer a test of knowledge. If schools can regulate when and how to use phones then it should be done, only if students will stick to it.

I am also sitting on the fence because we know how smart and cunny some students can be.

Very much on point👍, the truth is that people wouldn't want to read again if they're given the chance to use AI to answer questions. And that means we would have more quack doctors😅

AI in tests and exams would mean that the future is in trouble because nobody will be innovative anymore. So, I agree with you.

It can only encourage laziness and reduce the level students think critically...ai can be a helpful tool to research but obviously not for phones to be allowed by the students
