I’m really excited to share my entry for today’s #monomad Challenge, this time with something deeply meaningful for me: my experience walking the Camino Primitivo, from Oviedo all the way to Santiago de Compostela.
Thirteen days of forests, mountains, endless shades of green… and silence.
A silence that I didn’t just enjoy — I needed.

The Primitivo is the oldest of all caminos, and in many ways the wildest. For long stretches it was just me, the path, the wind, and the cows. I met people along the way, of course, but most of the time I walked alone — exactly what I was looking for. The solitude, instead of feeling heavy, felt like pure freedom. It became a spiritual experience that shifted something inside me.

Hoy tengo muchísimas ganas de enseñaros mi participación en el #monomad Challenge con algo que significa muchísimo para mí: mi experiencia haciendo el Camino Primitivo, desde Oviedo hasta Santiago de Compostela.
Trece días de bosques, montañas, miles de tonos de verde… y silencio.
Un silencio que no solo disfruté, sino que necesitaba.

El Primitivo es el camino más antiguo y, en muchos sentidos, el más salvaje. Durante largos tramos era solo yo, el sendero, el viento y las vacas. Conocí gente por el camino, claro, pero la mayor parte del tiempo caminé solo, justo lo que buscaba. La soledad, lejos de pesarme, fue una libertad absoluta. Se convirtió en una experiencia espiritual que me cambió por dentro.

The Primitivo welcomed me with endless green landscapes. Even the air felt different — humid, fresh, almost sweet. Every step between these trees felt like walking inside a living cathedral.

El Primitivo me recibió con paisajes verdes infinitos. Incluso el aire era distinto: húmedo, fresco, casi dulce. Cada paso entre estos árboles era como caminar dentro de una catedral viva.

There were days when I started walking before sunrise. The world was quiet, and the first light touching the hills felt like a gift just for me.

Hubo días en los que empezaba a caminar antes de que saliera el sol. El mundo estaba en silencio, y la primera luz tocando las colinas parecía un regalo solo para mí.

Sometimes the only “companions” I had were cows looking at me as if they owned the place. And honestly? I think they did.

A veces las únicas “compañeras” que tenía eran vacas mirándome como si fuesen las dueñas del lugar. Y sinceramente, creo que lo eran.

Somewhere between the climbs and the forests, my thoughts finally slowed down. It’s surprising how easy it is to hear yourself when the world around you is quiet.

En algún punto entre las subidas y los bosques, mis pensamientos por fin se callaron. Es increíble lo fácil que es escucharte cuando el mundo alrededor está en silencio.

There were mornings when the fog was so dense that I couldn’t see more than a few meters ahead. The world turned completely white, silent, and soft. Walking through that mist felt almost unreal — like moving inside a dream where the path only appeared when you were brave enough to take the next step.

Hubo mañanas en las que la niebla era tan densa que no podía ver más de unos pocos metros delante de mí. El mundo se volvía completamente blanco, silencioso y suave. Caminar entre esa niebla era casi irreal, como avanzar dentro de un sueño donde el camino solo aparecía cuando te atrevías a dar el siguiente paso.

One thing I learned on the Primitivo is that the Camino is constant decision-making. Every day you choose which route to take: the steep one, the long one, the muddy one, the one that looks easier but isn’t. And at some point you realise it’s exactly like life. No one can walk it for you. No one can choose your path. You move forward because you decide to: step by step, choice by choice.

Una de las cosas que aprendí en el Primitivo es que el Camino es decidir constantemente. Cada día eliges qué ruta tomar: la más empinada, la más larga, la llena de barro, la que parece fácil pero no lo es. Y llega un momento en el que entiendes que es exactamente igual que la vida. Nadie puede caminarla por ti. Nadie puede elegir tu sendero. Avanzas porque tú decides avanzar, paso a paso, elección tras elección.

After thirteen days walking alone, arriving at the Cathedral of Santiago felt unreal. A mix of peace, exhaustion, pride, and something I still can’t fully describe.

Después de trece días caminando solo, llegar a la Catedral de Santiago fue irreal. Una mezcla de paz, cansancio, orgullo y algo que todavía no sé describir del todo.
