My today’s Monomad entry: a second journey through the beauty of my chaos.

I’m really excited to share my second post for the #monomad Challenge, this time featuring photos from my little “junk drawer”: those random shots with no specific theme, but that hold small moments of my life.
As I mentioned in my previous post, each of these images captures a moment I felt like saving and sharing with you. Moments that may seem simple, but have that special something that made me press the shutter.
Because in the end, life should be photographed with taste… and with the desire to remember.

Tengo muchísimas ganas de enseñaros mi segundo post para el #monomad Challenge con fotos de mi cajón desastre: esas fotos sueltas, sin un hilo concreto, pero que para mí guardan pequeños instantes de vida.
Como ya comenté en mi post anterior, cada una de estas imágenes captura un momento que me apetecía guardar y compartir con vosotros. Momentos que, aunque parezcan simples, tienen ese algo especial que me hizo disparar la cámara.
Porque al final, la vida hay que fotografiarla con gusto… y sobre todo con ganas de recordar.

Photo 1: Towers of Ancient Echoes. | Foto 1: Torres de ecos antiguos.

I start with this photograph I took of the Basilica of Our Lady of the Pillar, located in Zaragoza, Spain. The towers and the domes decorated with colorful tiles are so characteristic of this monument, and it’s honestly so impressive that it makes you feel like you’re traveling back in time. I imagine how it must have been to watch the construction of this basilica, to see it finished, and how life around it must have looked back then. It suddenly reminds me of The Pillars of the Earth by Ken Follett, and I can totally picture a story like that happening during the construction of this wonderful monument.

I remember this improvised visit with my family to Zaragoza. It was a city that, until then, had been completely unknown to me, and it turned out to be a discovery I definitely don’t regret.

Empiezo con esta fotografía que tomé de la Basílica de Nuestra Señora del Pilar, ubicada en Zaragoza, en España. Las torres y las cúpulas con azulejos decorados son totalmente características de este monumento tan impresionante, que te hace viajar en el tiempo a aquella época en la que ver la construcción de esta basílica, verla terminada, y la vida alrededor de ella debía de ser una locura. De repente me acuerdo del libro Los pilares de la Tierra, de Ken Follett, y me imagino una historia del estilo durante la construcción de este maravilloso monumento.
Recuerdo esta visita improvisada con mi familia a Zaragoza. Era una ciudad que hasta entonces había sido desconocida para mí y que terminó siendo un descubrimiento del que no me arrepiento.

I really like this photo, to be honest. It looks like a simple picture, but… I like the framing, I like how the camera shows up on one side with the background all blurry. And I love how my hand is reflected while I was taking the shot with my phone.

This photo tells the story of when I was working at an architecture studio in London. I had to go to a site where we had a project for a residential building — a mix of housing and offices. I needed to photograph the area so I could later create the renders of how the building we designed would look in that environment. I brought my camera and my tripod, and there I was, taking several photos from different angles.

Esta foto me gusta mucho, la verdad. Parece una foto normal, pero… me gusta el encuadre, me gusta que la cámara se vea a un lado y el fondo borroso. Me gusta cómo se ve reflejada mi mano cuando hacía la foto con el móvil.
Esta foto cuenta la historia de cuando trabajaba en un estudio de arquitectura en Londres y tuve que ir a un sitio donde teníamos un proyecto de un edificio de viviendas, un mix de viviendas y oficinas. Tenía que fotografiar la zona para luego poder hacer los renders de cómo iba a quedar el edificio que diseñamos en ese entorno. Me llevé mi cámara y mi trípode, y ahí estuve haciendo varias fotos desde distintos ángulos.

This amazing building is part of the Barbican in London, a residential complex that was close to one of the architecture studios where I worked for five years. So I used to go there all the time to walk around and photograph it.

It has several towers and blocks, all interconnected, and also public areas that aren’t just for the residents, but for everyone: a shop, a theatre, exhibition spaces, the central area with terraces, a restaurant, a bar surrounded by fountains and greenery, and tons of open spaces where you can walk around or just sit down and enjoy the whole complex.

It’s a really well-known example of brutalist architecture in London.

Esta maravilla de edificio forma parte del Barbican de Londres, un complejo residencial que estaba cerca de uno de los estudios de arquitectura donde trabajé durante cinco años. Así que me pasaba muchísimas veces a pasear y a fotografiarlo.
Tenía varias torres y bloques de edificios, todos interconectados, además de zonas públicas abiertas no solo para los vecinos, sino para cualquiera: tienda, teatro, zonas de exposiciones, la parte central con terrazas, restaurante, un bar rodeado de fuentes y vegetación, y un montón de espacios libres donde pasear o sentarte a disfrutar del complejo.
Es un ejemplo de arquitectura brutalista, muy famosa en Londres.

I remember this photo with a lot of affection because it was taken during one of the Open House days, when you can visit public buildings, private homes and any place with special architectural interest.
This one in particular was a single-family house, really beautiful and architecturally incredible. It was one of those places where you had to take your shoes off before entering. With how beautiful the entrance was, all the vegetation, that elegant door, and the shoes off to the side… it felt like such an original and interesting shot to take.

Recuerdo esta foto con mucho cariño, porque fue en una de las jornadas de Puertas Abiertas, Open House, en las que se pueden visitar edificios públicos, viviendas particulares y cualquier sitio con un interés arquitectónico especial.
Esta en concreto era una vivienda unifamiliar preciosa, increíble arquitectónicamente. Era de esos lugares en los que, para entrar, te tenías que quitar los zapatos. Entre lo bonita que era la entrada, con tanta vegetación, esta puerta tan elegante y los zapatos ahí a un lado, me pareció una foto súper original e interesante.

Worldwide known and easily one of the most iconic places in my city Valencia the City of Arts and Sciences is still just as photogenic as ever. Some of you might notice that I left a bit of color in the photo but I just could not bring myself to remove it. That dramatic and beautiful tone it had when I captured it gives the image a very special kind of life.
It feels almost like the reflected heartbeat of Calatrava’s wonderful sculptures.

Bueno mundialmente conocida diría yo la Ciudad de las Artes y las Ciencias de mi ciudad Valencia sigue siendo igual de fotografiable que siempre. Algunos os preguntaréis por qué he dejado un poco de color pero no me podía permitir deshacerme de ese color tan bonito y dramático que tenía cuando la fotografié. Me parece que le da vida a la foto de una manera muy especial.
Es como el corazón reflejado de estas maravillosas esculturas de Calatrava.

I remember these two photos with a lot of affection. They were taken from the room in one of the flats where I lived in London. I think they were some of the best views I ever had from a room during all the years I lived there. It looked out over The Bevoir Square in Haggerston. A beautiful and small square full of huge trees and a very cute and well maintained little park with lots of flowers in spring. And in autumn the colours were amazing. In winter it was sometimes even completely covered in snow.

Estas dos fotos las recuerdo con mucho cariño. Fueron tomadas desde la habitación en uno de los pisos en los que viví allí en Londres. Creo que fueron de las mejores vistas que he tenido desde una habitación en los años que he vivido allí. Daba a The Bevoir Square en Haggerston. Una preciosa y pequeña plaza llena de árboles gigantes y un parquecito muy bonito y muy bien cuidado con muchas flores en primavera. Y en otoño unos colores impresionantes. En invierno incluso a veces todo nevado.

Lastly in England and I am not sure if it is the same everywhere in the country but at least in London there is a big culture of going to the pub after work especially on Fridays when the workday ends although honestly it happens every day. During the week in office areas the pubs were always completely full. This one in particular was a pub close to our office. You can even see some of my colleagues talking in the background. It was a pub with a really beautiful decoration. Every detail was always so well cared for in these places in England. That is something I really miss a lot.

Por último allí en Inglaterra no sé si en toda Inglaterra pero al menos en Londres hay mucha cultura de ir al pub después de trabajar sobre todo los viernes al acabar el trabajo pero realmente todos los días entre semana en las zonas de oficinas los pubs estaban siempre hasta arriba. Este en particular era uno cerca de nuestra oficina. Se pueden ver incluso compañeros míos hablando al fondo. Era un pub con una decoración preciosa. Cada detalle estaba siempre muy bien cuidado en estos espacios en Inglaterra. Eso es algo que echo mucho de menos.

This post is my contribution to today’s #monomad challenge. I hope you enjoyed this little trip through my personal chaos, my own drawer of memories, those random moments that somehow ended up meaning something to me. From Zaragoza to London to Valencia each photo had its own small story and I loved sharing them with you. And just like the quote at the beginning said photography freezes life for a second and I guess that is exactly what all these photos are for me.

Espero que hayáis disfrutado de este pequeño viaje por mi propio caos por mi cajón desastre lleno de recuerdos y momentos sueltos que terminaron teniendo significado para mí. Desde Zaragoza hasta Londres pasando por Valencia cada foto tenía su pequeña historia y me ha encantado compartirlas con vosotros. Y como decía la cita del principio la fotografía congela la vida por un segundo y creo que eso es exactamente lo que son estas fotos para mí.
