December 2025 Test Cricket Recap
December 2025 was a very exciting month in Test cricket. There were important Test series taking place in New Zealand and Australia, and fans really enjoyed the matches. We saw big scores, brave batting, strong bowling, and even a match that finished in just two days.
Test cricket once again proved how exciting and dramatic the game can be.
Here is a simple recap of all the Test matches played in December 2025.
West Indies Tour of New Zealand
1st Test — Dec 2–6, Hagley Oval, Christchurch
Result: Match Drawn
Team Scores
- New Zealand: 231 & 466/8 declared
- West Indies: 167 & 457/6 (target 531)
This was a thrilling match. West Indies were chasing 531 runs, which looked almost impossible. But Justin Greaves (202)* and Kemar Roach (58)* batted bravely and saved the match for their team. It felt like a win for West Indies.

2nd Test — Dec 10–12, Basin Reserve, Wellington
Result: New Zealand won by 9 wickets
Team Scores
- West Indies: 205 & 128
- New Zealand: 278/9 declared & 57/1 (target 56)
New Zealand bowled very well and controlled the match from the start. West Indies could not score enough runs, and New Zealand chased the target easily.
Player of the Match: Jacob Duffy
3rd Test Dec 18-22, Bay Oval, Mount Maunganui
Result: New Zealand won by 323 runs
Team Scores
- New Zealand: 575/8 declared & 306/2 declared
- West Indies: 420 & 138 (target 462)
Devon Conway and Tom Latham scored big runs for New Zealand. West Indies started well in the second innings but then collapsed from 87/0 to 138 all out.
Player of the Match: Devon Conway
Player of the Series: Jacob Duffy, 23 wickets
New Zealand also won the series. A long awaited win for New Zealand.
The Ashes, Australia vs England
2nd Test Dec 4-7, Gabba, Brisbane (Day/Night)
Result: Australia won by 8 wickets
Team Scores
- England: 334 & 241
- Australia: 511 & 69/2 (target 65)
Mitchell Starc was the star of the match with both bat and ball. Joe Root’s 138* was excellent, but Australia were too strong.

3rd Test Dec 17-21, Adelaide Oval
Result: Australia won by 82 runs
Team Scores
- Australia: 371 & 349
- England: 286 & 352 (target 435)
Travis Head scored a fantastic 170, and Alex Carey also made important runs. England tried hard in the chase but fell short.
Player of the Match: Alex Carey
4th Test Dec 26-27, MCG, Melbourne
Result: England won by 4 wickets
Team Scores
- Australia: 152 & 132
- England: 110 & 178/6 (target 175)
This Test finished in just two days. England finally won a Test match in Australia after nearly 15 years. Josh Tongue bowled brilliantly.
Australia still leads the Ashes 3–1.

📌 Final Thoughts
December 2025 was full of excitement in Test cricket.
New Zealand looked confident and calm. Their bowlers kept good control, and the batters showed patience. It felt like the team is slowly getting stronger at home again.
West Indies showed moments of real talent. But they will need more consistency to win tough Test matches. If they can build stronger partnerships, they can become very competitive again.
Australia continued to play solid cricket. Their bowlers were disciplined, and the team handled pressure very well. They still look like one of the strongest Test teams.
For England, Winning again in Australia after a long time will give them boost. Their fans will hope they keep improving and playing brave cricket.
Test cricket gave us drama, excitement, and great performances.
