Guiding Children On Movies They Watch.

The Hive Naija prompt got me thinking about my childhood days and how fun it was. My childhood days was full of beautiful moments and emotions because I never had to do a single thing by myself. Whatever I do, have in mind that either my parents, aunt or uncle helped me with it because they were around us then.
Since I never had the opportunity to do so many things by myself, I also was lazy to insert a movie into our DVD decoder. I was always waiting on them to do it for me and that’s why I could not do anything in secret. Whatever I do has to be known by my parents.

What’s my experience about children, movies and parental guidance?

Honestly, I had a good experience with this when I was much younger. Firstly, I move from home to school and from school back to the house so I was mostly with adults who could guide and lead me into the right path.
At the same time, I was spanked so many times especially by my mum because she never gets satisfied and feels the best thing to do when I make a mistake is to get some spanking even though that will not really solve all the issues on ground. My childhood was fun and was full of me watching cartoons like Tom and Jerry, Cinderella, Most Wanted which was an American movie, Aki and PawPaw and so much more. My dad made sure that he knew the kind of movie he was playing for us before he decides to show us.

I’m sure you can see that I had a wonderful background training but it never can be perfect. My aunt who lived with us began to have boyfriends and she liked one particular guy so whenever my mum sends her on an errand, she takes me along with her and stop by her boyfriend’s place. They would have sex inside the room, screaming and knowing fully well that I was in the living room. One day, I was in the living room and my aunt’s phone was ringing. I was about to go give her in the room and I met the two of them on each other. That was the first time I saw people having sex and when I got home, I tried to place a pillow on me to have a feeling of what my aunt did. I kept on remembering things and always made sure my pillow was on me anytime I wasn’t to sleep. It looks like this has affected me.
You can never see me sleep without having to hug my pillow. That’s how bad it can be.

How often did I watch movies when I was growing up?

Honestly, I watched a lot of movies when I was growing up and my dad was behind all of the movies I watched. He made sure that we watched movies that are good for our brain. My dad happens to be a kind of man who loves discipline and loves it more when his kids focus on their education so we were more of our books and that’s why my siblings and I usually do well in class since there was nothing to distract us and we had all we need to be successful in class.

If I have kids, am I guiding what they watch?

Honestly, I’m going to monitor every move they take especially when they are still very little and cannot do so many things by themselves. The world is not getting funny and we tend to see crazy contents online. I can’t be a perfect parent but I’d just make sure that I try my best in guiding them on the things they should watch or not.

Also, I’d make sure that I do not give birth to more children than I can train. I’d make sure to only give birth to the number of children I can train even though I still won’t be perfect with one.
