Intelligent Dance Music for Three Tune Tuesday
To this #threetunetuesday challenge I came with some electronic beats. Easy-listening, but nevertheless worth your attention! So, today's names: Messer für Frau Müller / Messer Chups / Oleg Kostrov / Oleg Gitarkin / Jean Michelle Jarre. Perhaps the last one is not so much unknown to you, is it? 😜
«Messer für Frau Müller» is an interesting Russian group that has gone through a long and winding path from parody punk rock to electronic dance music, at the end of its evolution it turned into a duo; From the original composition, only Oleg Kostrov remained in it, who was joined by Oleg Gitarkin in 1993.
Kostrov always gravitated towards the 'electro-pop' genre, while Gitarkin was drawn to a heavy, harsh guitar sound. It was Gitarkin who generated the idea of sampling old music, films and creating a 'post easy listening' style - which provided the unique sound of MFFM.
Having released a dozen luxurious albums, the musicians fled, each continuing to move along his own trajectory. After the completion of the active phase of MFFM, Oleg Gitarkin was in charge of the «Messer Chups» project, which I have already introduced you to, and I will introduce you to again, because it is an inexhaustible treasury of curious and seductive dance music. Easy listening? Yes! but in the most luxurious version.
In the image above: Gitarkin is on the left, and Kostrov is on the right.
Easy listening? да! но в наиболее роскошной версии.
Messer Chups - Tchaikovsky Beat
Don't count this as a mockery of classical music... appreciate the dexterity of the DJ, deftly mixing such disparate ingredients as 'March of the Toy Soldiers' from 'The Nutcracker', cat meows and surf rock guitars. Post-modernism in elegant and delicious package! It's a shame that there exist no official video to go with this track.
Oleg Kostrov - Magpie in Sandals
I wouldn’t count this track outstanding among the whole Kostrov’s back catalog, but look at the wonderful video sequence, straight from ’66! Sweet.
Я бы не назвал этот трек чем-то выдающимся в творчестве Кострова, но поглядите на замечательный видеоряд, прямиком из 66 года!
Oh, by the way, look: I am a proud owner of one of 'Messer Chups' classic albums, hand-numbered and limited edition (my number is #181 - not bad!). 2000 was a good year in music, after all!...
Jean Michel Jarre - Magnetic Fields, Pt.5
Pokemon music?! Some folks consider it as a sort of joke track on the album; I have no clue why, what is the punch (maybe it has something to do with the way it was recorded?.. or its a counterpoint to the rest of this pretty much monolyth and conceptual album). Anyway, I doubtlessly put this among my very favorite tracks in Jarre's back catalog, for me it stands out and, of course, has stood the test of time. Good retro music is timeless, it doesn't care about the ebbs and flows of fashion, right? and this track contains a huge charge of something vintage, the aroma of bygone times. It is impossible to imagine that such piece of art comes out from today's masters of electronic music.

Indeed the video of Magpie in sandlas is so interesting. Specially the first car's window scene. That one is good to my eyes may be because I focus more on videos. This always remain my habit that I always look in details of the video and even sometimes I forget to listen to music and found myself focused in video.
Well, we all focus on videos ;=) cause they are catchy ... happy I was able to entertain you. and here is an extra treat - Hive !BEER

Great selection. The first tune is great and delivers that cool easy listening sound you describe. The 66 video is great and I like the tune too.
I didnt hear this Jean Michel Jarre song that I can remember, but it has been a while since I have heard much of his stuff to be honest. I had to search to remember the famous track he is well known for oxygene.
Thank you for the compliment. Yeah, Jarre albums sounds pretty much dated and even dull nowadays... I do not re-listen them nowadays: there is so much other, more interesting and complex music! (The only exception is the 'Zoolook' album of 1984, and it will definitely be featured in my future #ttt issues). Well... anyway, sometimes it's cool to remember the roots, the reference points, the good old 80-s (were they really that good? Margaret Thatcher, Reagan, the Falklands War... ?..) And I would like to imagine !LOLZ that my post
willmay help younger Hiveans to educate themselves about this name. ... and a !PIZZAI was maybe too young in the 80s, but Jarre was there as he was also on the computer scene in the 90s abit I think, or his influence at least, but I remember mostly Spectrum games from the 80s and not so much the music as I was quite young. Hard to think the Politics isn't the same, but it sure does rhyme! The same rhetoric and sophism for sure.
I also look forward to hear something from Zoolook! That has peaked my interest for sure!
Well, I didnt intend to tease you :D
As I dont know when it will be featured, here is my fave part of said LP:
In my opinion, definitely a mixing masterpiece, and a product of its time. Tho I got myself acquainted with Jarre much later, it still bring me the nostalgie feeling for that time, for my teen years... := ) I was a huge Depeche Mode fan in 80-es, before I started looking at 70-es, 60-es and more avant garde artists.
Nice one and I love the video too! Has a real nostaligic feel to it. :)
