Greetings! Today we continue our endless musical journey into the past; and some more Gypsy / Balcan beats for you. Today's names are: Shantel / Fanfare Ciocarlia.

Shantel - Dimineata

(from 'Bucovina Club' LP; 2005)

Stefan Hantel who is standing behind the 'Shantel' alias is a German musician, music producer and DJ. He is most known for his electronic remixes of Balkan traditional music and collaborations with gypsy brass bands; he is a descendant of Romanian Bukovina refugees (and his grandparents were Ukrainian Jews), which explains such a case. He did a lot to popularize Balkan music in Europe.

As many as two tracks from his archive have become my huge personal all-time hits,-- I included both in today’s selection. (Why scatter it into many parts?.. ) A few words about the track. 'Dimineata' is cinematographic; its a harsh beat capturing some tragic notes of life, its bittersweet essence; that is most pleasurable fraction of the gypsy and Balkan music for me.

Shantel feat. Mahala Rai Banda - Mahalageasca

(from «Bucovina Dub» LP; 2006; videofeed is Cyd Charisse dance from «The Red Blues»; 1957)

This traditional Romanian tune is among the gems that I can listen to on repeat for ages, without becoming boring. What is that? sort of an absolute melody, maybe... Once a clever person assumed that if God would want to show himself to people, he would come in a form of music; some absolute melody, of course.

The composition was taken into the «Borat» film soundtrack. Perhaps you are familiar with it if you watched the said film... look how this melody fits into the fiery dance of Cyd Charisse, that is an endlessly fascinating sight. This video brings me some consolation whenever I'm sad, it "recharges my battery."

Fanfare Ciocarlia - Casablanca

(from «Baro Biao» LP; 1999)

The last but not the least! A powerful melody from well-known classic movie 'Casablanka' (1942) with Humphrey Bogart and Ingrid Bergman. I am not sure if I should speak about it at all? Amazing light melody, stunning brass vibes touching your soul.

The romantic drama is about love, a powerful drama between man and woman during the 2nd World War... I definitely not gonna retell the story. If you haven't heard this, now you have done! If you haven't seen the movie - do watch it, you won't regret!

I hope you enjoyed today's music selection, and travelling around the globe without leaving the Hive. 😎 The post goes for Three Tune Tuesday challenge run by @ablaze. Previous issues: 106 | 107 | 108 | 109 | 110 | 111 | 112 | 113 | 114 | 115 | 116 | 118 | 121 | 122 | 123 | 124

I liked this selection of tunes, it's really interesting.
I loved the assumption that if God would show himself to people he would do it in the form of music . 🎶🎵

I love the first tune and maybe heard it in the Borat film but don't recall it right now. I haven't watched Casablanca for a long time, but I really enjoyed it when I watched it last time.

I was listening to and visiting a few clubs playing balkan music around 10 years or so ago. I really liked some of the turbo folk tunes, although didnt understand the words. I will see if I can dig up some of them from that time.

I recently watched a lot of film reviews on YT, and downloaded a lot of old movies. Some I have already watched and erased from my memory but mostly the ones I never looked at... Count that as me preparing to the harsh lack of visuals during the late autumn / winter dull time...

I really liked some of the turbo folk tunes, although didnt understand the words.

Same. I dont understand none of these languages and really have no need to, I just go after the vibe, after their energy and bittersweet essence. (And in many cases, tune dont have lyrics at all!) ☘️ Have some !PIZZA and a !BEER from me 🙏
