60-es treasures for Three Tune Tuesday
Another nice little journey back in time. Music journey. Never enough!
Marie Laforêt - Ciccerenella
Great artistic performance of (I believe) some traditional Italian song, which makes me regret that I do not know this language, and cannot understand what is being said. Marie Laforet is a wonderful French actress, her performance almost replaces explanations for me... (I can understand one word still: 'belle' 😛 maybe one of native-speaking Hiveans can explain it to me?...) Pay attention to the faces of the accompanists musicians! Mary has clearly ignited and impregnated them with her passion, they are so happy to play for her!
Nina Simone - Ain't Got No, I Got Life
Nina Simone does not need any extra presentations, does she?.. This became one of my very fave songs in life, almost purely for the lyrics. It is so consolative. No, I'm not a black man who is fighting for his rights in America in 1966 ... but has the situation with the level of freedom changed much? (By the way, my acquaintance with Nina Simone have started exactly at this point: I have heard famous 'What is the freedom for you?' catch-phrase from her interview sampled in Radiohead gig around 2016).
Cat Power - I Feel
Chan Marshall is the name behind the 'Cat Power' name. She is one of my fave woman vocalists; musical press labelled her voice as 'velvet' and 'chocolate'. Sadly, I have to admit - her songwriter and creator skills are not as impressive, as her vocals, arrangement, performing, and charming outlook. Yes, she's a real charmer! Perhaps thats why sufficient part of her recordings are cover songs. But! What she is doing with selected songs - is unbelievable magic! This song originally performed by The Hot Boys, actually was a dirty rap song. Look what she've made of it: I'm not afraid to say this is like a political manifesto, the level of Bob Dylan, a song that could become the anthem of a generation.
Do listen to the lyrics. Grok it.
So... today 'They don't do it like that anymore! The post goes for Three Tune Tuesday challenge run by @ablaze. Previous issues: 106 | 107 | 108 | 109 | 110 | 111 | 112

A great selection. 3 quite different artists but all very inspiring. It is hard to say which I like the most, but I like them all. The voice of Chan is quite mesmerising, I am trying to think who it reminds me of, I expect it will come to me at some point.
My pleasure! I assume, the songs were new to you?..
Chan is a kind of a 'hidden star', in the future rounds I gonna show two other her songs that click with me.
Would love to hear about your associations, curious. I'd rather think she is unique. 🤔
The 1st and 3rd were new to me, the 2nd one is a classic! :)
Of course! 😎
Simple, yet so classic and powerful. What a master piece. The vocals . The organ… everything . What a song!
Thanks for sharing these great songs! I'm always up for a musical journey back in time.
I've never heard of Marie Laforêt before, but I'm really enjoying her performance of Ciccerenella. She has such a beautiful voice and presence, and the musicians she's playing with are clearly having a great time. I love the way she builds up the energy of the song, and the way she brings out the passion in the lyrics.
Nina Simone is a legend, and Ain't Got No, I Got Life is one of her most iconic songs. The lyrics are so powerful and inspiring, and Simone's performance is absolutely electrifying. I love the way she delivers the lines with such conviction, and the way she builds up the intensity of the song.
I'm not familiar with Cat Power, but I'm really impressed with her cover of I Feel. She takes a song that was originally a dirty rap song and transforms it into something completely different. Her vocals are amazing, and the arrangement is beautiful. The lyrics are also really powerful, and I love the way she delivers them with such passion.
Nina Simone is so good…

Nice selection! I've always been really impressed with Nina Simone; she has a voice that really means business. I've not heard the other two before, but they were just as nice. Awesome stuff.
My pleasure that you learned something new. Marie Laforet is a big deal, as big as Nina Simone
I've started participating in ttt with two other fave tracks 🤩
