Getting Kids in this Economy is a good decision?!
Alright, let’s be real for a second. The idea of having kids in this economy feels a bit like deciding to buy a Tesla when you can barely afford a used bicycle. But hey, let’s break it down – pros and cons style – because nothing says responsible adulthood like a good ol’ pros and cons list.
I stumbled upon this Gift Card on Reddit.com and decided to talk about it with you guys on Inleo. I know the card is about Birtdays in general, but i like to narrow it down.
What’s your opinion on having children in this economy?
I’m really interested in your answers! Knowing that you’re from all over the world means you have different economic perspectives.
For me, having kids is something I’d like to achieve, but way later in life than expected. It’s not that I lack financial resources, but I definitely would if I had kids right now.
- Pro: Built-in Entertainment
Forget Netflix; kids are walking, talking sitcoms. From their first hilarious attempts at mispronouncing words (looking at you, “pasghetti”) to their unfiltered truths ("Why is your belly so squishy, Dad?"), they’re an endless source of laughs. Cheap laughs, though – because you’re broke.
- Con: They’re Expensive AF
Diapers? Expensive. Daycare? Like a second mortgage. College tuition? You might as well sell a kidney now. Oh, and don’t forget the snacks – these tiny humans can inhale Goldfish crackers like a Dyson on steroids. RIP to your bank account.
- Pro: Legacy Goals
Kids give you that warm fuzzy feeling of leaving a piece of yourself in the world. You might not own property, stocks, or even a decent blender, but at least you’ve got someone to maybe take care of you when you’re old. Maybe.
This also aligns with my wish to have kids later in life. I mean, my life expectancy is about 90 years, while theirs would likely be around 100. Having kids in my mid-20s would mean they’d be helping me when they’re in their 60s. Sounds like a pain in the ass for both of us.
- Con: Emotional Turmoil
Kids will love you, but they’ll also roast you harder than Gordon Ramsay. One moment they’re hugging you, the next they’re crying because you cut their sandwich into triangles instead of squares. Emotional rollercoaster, much?
In my opinion, having kids is something awesome – maybe even necessary – but only if you can afford it. There’s no need to rush it. The risks of complications during pregnancy later in life are not as dangerous as they used to be 20 years ago. I really hope those improvements continue in the coming years.
