Noble Words : To cast pearls before swine !

Yesterday, was our school assembly. All the students were lined up in the ground for an hour. The principal, addresses us on various career topic. I noticed not everyone present was giving attention to his speech. They all wanted to go inside and attend their classes. Such scenarios are very common in most of public addresing. Not all attendees were giving their due attention. In some cases, speaking is useless. Sanskrit have some greater insight on addressing the public. It says ;

अप्रतिबुद्धे श्रोतारि वक्तुर्वाक्यं प्रयाति वैफल्यं |
नयनविहीने भर्तरि लावण्यमिवेह खञ्जनाक्षीणां ||

Apratibuddha shrotaari vakturvaakyam prayaati vaiphalyam.
Nayanaviheene bhartari laavanyamiveha khanjanaaksheenaam.

Apratibuddha = a foolish person.
Shrotaari = a listener.
Vakturvaakyam = vaktuh + vaakyam.
Vaktuh = statements.
Vaakyam = sentences.
Prayaati = causes.
Vaiphalyam = useless, fruitlessness.
Nayanaviheene = a blind person.
Bhartari = husband,
Laavanyamiveha = laavanyam + iva + iha.
Laavanyam = grace, beauty.
Iva = like.
Iha = here.
Khanjanaaksheenaam = Khanja + aksheenaam,
Khanjan = a bird (Wagtail) known for its beautiful eyes.
Aksha = eyes.
Khanjanaaksheenaam = a woman having beautiful eyes like the Khanjan bird's eyes.

i.e. If the listeners are fools, then preaching to them is as futile and unsuccessful as the beauty of a beautiful woman having eyes like those of a pheasant bird is useless for her blind husband.

Fools are described as despising wisdom and being unable or unwilling to grasp sound arguments. Your words of truth and reason will be dismissed by them. There is little chance of changing a fool's mind or convincing them of the truth, making the effort unproductive. In such cases, addressing an assembly in which the listeners are foolish persons is a futile exercise and results in complete failure

To play the flute in the presence of a buffalo. This is the hundi version of the english idioms (cast pearls before swine). The author has beautifully descibed his thought by citing the example of beauty of a lady, whose beauty go unnoticed by her blind husband. The husband can not envisage and appreciate the youth and beauty of his wife.

Learning is Passion!!
