Noble Words : Respecting the power of others !

Power comes with immense responsibility. It is important to respect the power. Respecting others' power, whether through their authority, expertise, or influence, can build stronger, more collaborative relationships. When people feel respected, they are more likely to cooperate, offer support, and feel a sense of loyalty. In many situations, respecting the power of others can lead to better outcomes. For example, a respectful leader can inspire more dedication and commitment from their team, leading to greater success. To elaborate, Sanskrit has following to say :

गुणी गुणं वेत्ति न वेत्ति निर्गुणो
बली बलं वेत्ति न वेत्ति निर्बलः
पिको वसन्तस्य गुणं न वायसः
करी च सिंहस्य बलं न मूषकः

Guni gunam vetti na vetti nirgunah
Bali balam vetti na vetti nirbalah

Piko vasantasya gunam na vaayash
Kari cha simhasya balam na mooshakh.

Guni = a virtuous person.
Gunam = virtues.
Vetti = knows, appreciates, judges.
Bali = a powerful person.
Balam = power, strength.
Nirbal = without power, a weak person.
Pika = nightingale (koel in Hindi) - a singing bird, resembling in outwardly appearance with a crow.
Vasant = Spring season.
Vaayasa = a crow
Kari = an elephant.
Simha = a lion.
Mooshak = a mouse.

i.e. Only a person having virtues appreciates the virtues of others and not a person who has no virtues. Similarly, a powerful person appreciates the true worth of having power and not a weak person. When Spring season sets in , it is the nightingale and not a crow, which appreciates the bounties of the Spring season. Likewise, an elephant and not a mouse, knows the strength of a lion.

Respecting the power of others is not about giving up your own power, but about acknowledging the power of others and using it wisely to build stronger relationships, foster better communication, and create a more just and equitable world.

Learning is Passion!!
