Noble Words : Respecting 5 fires in life !
Few days ago, there was a quarrel in my neighbourhood. The adult son is arguing with their parent. He was disrespecting them with abusive words. Disrespecting parents is a common trend nowadays. The modern lifestyle often pit a son distant from their parents. In ancient times, parents and teacher were always respected. They were worshipped and always valued in life. Their inputs and suggestion and guidance were always given importance. This is what highlighted in following Sanskrit verses :
पञ्चाग्नयो मनुष्येण परिचर्याः प्रयत्नतः |
पितामाताग्निरात्मा च गुरुश्च भरतर्षभः ||
Panchaagnayo manushyena paricharyo prayatnatah.
Pitaamaataagniraatmaa cha gurushcha bharatarshabhah.
Panchaagnayo = Pancha + agnayo.
Pancha = five.
Agnayo = fires.
Manushyena = by a man.
Paricharyo = render service.
Pratnayatah = with special care.
Pitaamaataagniraatmaa = Pita + Maata + Agnih + Aatmaa,
cha = and.
Pita = father.
Maata = mother.
Agnih = fire.
Aatmaa = self.
Guruh + cha.
Guruh = the Teacher.
Bharatarshabhah = the best prince of Bhaarat i.e. India (here reference is to king Dhrutaraashtra.)
i,e, O King Dhrutaraashtra ! Father, Mother, Fire, one's own Self and a Guru (teacher) these five are called 'Panchaagni', anit is the foremost duty of a person to render service to them with special care.
These were the lines taken from the epic Mahabharatha, where Vidur is talking to the king Dhitrahtrashtra.
In these lines it was highlighted that, a person's Father, Mother, Fire, Son and their teacher, were always been dealt with special care. Any carelessness towards them may end up with dire consequences. While Father, Mother, Teacher influences our life in different ways, playing with Fire is alwsys risky. At the same if we get careless towards our own son, then it does not take much to spoil them. So we needs to be more careful and respect them always.
