Noble Words : Life is better with virtuous Son !

Indians have male oriented society. Male were alwsys preferable over other for carrying out task. This make the preference of Son a ultimate choice at every home. The society alwsys pressurised he family directly or indirectly for having a son. I have seen my parents up against the society and never regretted for having daughter at home. I feel, what if the family have one Son and that too inefficient. Like the asanskrit shlokas explain the following lines :

अपुत्रत्वं भवच्छ्रेयो न तु स्याद्विगुणेः सुतः |

जीवन्नप्यSविनीतोSसौः मृत एव न संशयः ||

Aputratvam bhavacchreyao na tu syaadviguneh sutah.
Jeevannaoyavineetosauh mruta eva na samshayah.

Aputratvam = not having any son. Bhavacchreyao = bhavat + shreyo.
Bhavat = being.
Shreyo = beneficial, better.
Na = not.
Tu = but.
Syaadviguneh = syaad + viguneih
Syaat = perhaps.
viguneih = worthless, without any merit.
Sutah = son.
Jeevannyapyavineetosauh = jeevan + api + avineeto + asau.
Jeeva = alive.
Api = even if.
Avineeto = rude, ill mannered.
Asau = he
Mruta = dead.
Aiva = really, like.
Na = not.
Sanshayah = doubt.

i.e. It is preferable not to have any son rather than having a son without any virtues and merit. So long he will be alive he will be rude and ill mannered. No doubt, such a son be better dead than alive.

Having a son is always a proud feeling, but the moment, he becomes virtuesless his existence is meaningless. Such personality always brings bad name to the family. A family wants a son to carry forward the family legacy with respect and glory, but if a son becomes inefficient, it does not take long to spoil the family legacy. This is what is highlighted in the above Sanskrit teaching. It is better not to have any Son than having any spoiled Son.
