Noble Words : Greed can be destructive !
In todays time, many individuals wants for more and more in life. It does not take long to find the person in the state of Greed.
Greed, an insatiable desire for more which can be very destructive. Greed can create a cycle of wanting more, making it difficult to appreciate what one has and leading to chronic dissatisfaction and unhappiness. Our Sanskrit has following lines to for Greedy people :
अपि मेरूपमं प्राज्ञ अपि शूरमपि स्थिरं |
तृणीकरोति तृष्णैका निमेषेण नरोत्तमं ||
Api meroopamam pragya api shooramapi sthiram.
Truneekaroti trushnaikaa nimeshena narottamam.
Api = eve.
Meroopamam = meru + upamam.
Meru = name of the mountain of Gods.
Upamam = like.
Praagya = highly learned.
Shooramapi = shooram + api.
Shooram = a brave person, a warrior.
Sthiram = firm, resolute..
Trunee = like an ordinary grass blade.
Karoti = does.
Trushnaikaa = Trushnaa + eka.
Trushnaa = greed.
ekaa = single
Nimeshena = within a moment.
Narottamam = best of men
i.e. A distinguished person may be learned and very respectable like the Meru mountain of the Gods and may be resolute and brave like a warrior, But if he becomes greedy and not able to control his greed, he loses all his status in no time and becomes insignificant like a blade of ordinary grass.
Scriptures have classified desire, which is the driving force of all human activities and progress, into three categories namely simple wish, desire and greed. When a person becomes greedy he goes to any extent to satisfy his greed and then his downfall is imminent, even if he may be a renowned person. This verses of Sanskrit deals with this aspect of human nature beautifully.
Too much greed leads to unhappiness, strained relationships, and even societal harm. It fosters dissatisfaction, prompting individuals to constantly seek what they lack, potentially leading to depression and a disregard for blessings they already possess.
