Noble Words : Duties to accomplish before death !

avatar

It is essential to remember that our body is not permanent. Those whosoever born will die one day. Our life is meant to live as much as possible. Birth and death cycle is natural process that exist on this earth. During the life span, a person needs to accomplish all major task relevant to them. To explain this in broader sense, Sanskrit has following verses to remind the mankind about the important aspect of life.

यावत्स्वस्थमिदं देहं यावन्मृत्युश्च दूरतः|
तावदात्महितं कुर्यात् प्राणान्ते किं करिष्यसि ||

Yaavatsvaasthyamidam deham yaavanmrutyushacha dooratah.
Taavadaatmahitam kuryaat praanante kim karishyasi.

Yaavatsvasthamidam = yaavat + svastham + idam.
Yaavat = as long.
Svastham = healthy.
Idam = this,
Deham = body.
Yaavanmrutyushcha = yaavat + mrutyuh + cha.
Mrutyuh = death.
Cha = and.
Dooratah = far away.
Taavadaatmahitam = tavat + aatmahitam.
Taavat = meanwhile, until
Aatmahitam = self interest, one's own interest
Kuryaat = do.
Praanante = death.
Kim = what ?
Karishyasi = will do.

i.e. As long as your body is healthy and the death is still far away, you must meanwhile accomplish all the tasks relating to your self interest, because how will you be able to do them when you will be dead ?

Although in this the tasks to be performed are not outlined, presumably these are not ordinary day to day tasks, but are those related to spiritual uplift and religiosity, which, people postpone for the future.

Apart from usual basic responsibility, a person has many other moral duties to accomplish. Before death, a person has moral duties related to finishing affairs, expressing love and forgiveness, and ensuring their final wishes are known and respected. It is important that the person should leave behind a positive impact on the community through their actions and contributions. Once the person is dead, there is no one to remember them.

Learning is Passion!!
