Noble Words: Appreciate what we have !
"Ghar ki murgi, Daal brabar." is a very common Indian phrases that people often used in a common context. Going by its English meaning it says that "Self possessions are always undermined and other's possessions seem better". This is a very common human practices of not valuing what, we own but always look appreciate the things that other posses. In Sanskrit, the same is explained in following words :
सुलभं वस्तु सर्वस्य न यात्यादरणीयतां |
स्वदारपरिहारेण परदाराSर्थितो जनाः ||
Sulabahm vastu sarvasya na yaatyaadaraniyataam
swadaarparihaarena paradaaraarthito janaah.
Sulabh = easily available.
Vastu = object.
Sarvasya = every ones'
Yaati = given
Aadaraniyataam = proper attention and respect.
Swa = ones' own.
Para = others
Daara = wife.
Parihaar = avid, neglect
Arthit = desired, craved.
Janaah = persons, people.
i.e. an object that is easily available to every one is not given proper importance and recognition e.g. people crave for association with other person's wife and neglect their own wife.
Objects that are readily available are often undervalued because of their accessibility, leading to a perception that they are not scarce or valuable. When an object is easily obtained, it doesn't trigger the same sense of urgency or desire as something limited or rare. This can lead to a lack of appreciation for its value. We often prioritize things we don't have or have lost, creating a sense of urgency and importance. Once something becomes a possession, it can lose its allure as we no longer feel the need to acquire it. Our brains tend to focus on novelty and change, and readily available things may not trigger the same level of attention or interest as things that are scarce or difficult to obtain.
Availability can lead to a sense of entitlement, where people assume that certain items will always be available and therefore don't bother to appreciate them. In a nutshell, it is sensible to appreciate what we have, rather than looking after other objects. This practice may lead to unhappiness and stress. It is better to content and enjoy life with what we get in our possession.
