POOR DECISIONS, CONSEQUENCES AND LESSONS 101…
Money answereth most things if not all things, especially as a tertiary student. Money is life for us. I have always been the savers type even before i gained admission into the tertiary institution many months ago. Actually, i have been cultivating my habit of saving from my early years in primary school. This wasn’t an habit i picked up overnight, it an habit i spent years cultivating until i became a pro saver, and guess what guys, this habit of mine really helped me in my college years and also right now in my university year. My savings have been coming through for me big time. I just can’t imagine how extremely stressful and exhausting life would have been for me if i didn’t cultivate this habit of mine years ago…
Moving on, my life as a tertiary student started early this year. Honestly, I didn’t see any of what i have been through in the last couple of months as a tertiary students coming. Although I knew what i was getting into but then I didn’t know it would be this intense and exhausting, especially the bills aspect…
Thanks to the hive blockchain the first 3 months of my life in the tertiary institution was all sweet and rosy. I didn’t further my education immediately I graduated high school. I knew the family i came from wasn’t heavily loaded in terms of cash, and that made understood the fact that i needed to hustle for a while and save up some money to able to fund some major expenses in my life before i finally chase my dream…
After 4 years of trying and hustling, everything worked out perfectly well and my student life eventually kicked off full time. My first three months in the tertiary institution was all sweet and fun, and that was because i had my savings to fall back on whenever I’m broke, not only did my savings came through for me during my broke days, they also came through for me in settling lots of different minor student bills…
I had the best first three month of my life. I literally got everything needed to make my first semester smooth and successful. Textbooks, manuals, class dues and many other materials were available to me. I had the best first semester…
Second semester marked the beginning of hardship for me as a tertiary student. I was low on savings and also got many bills breathing down my neck at the same time. I have never been the wasteful spender type of person, so there was nothing like mismanagement of funds for me. I spend money on things that are important. Seeing how things took a drastic turn upon the beginning of a new semester, I decided to monitoring my spending and finances very strictly…
It wasn’t easy but then i had to make it work. Honestly, the only major thing that changed for me afterwards were my eating habits. As a freshman I spent more of my money on good and quality meals. I was never the student that drank sachet water, it was mostly bottled water, and i drank at least three bottled water daily back then. When the thing they called SAPA hit me, i didn’t know when and how i found myself back to consuming sachet water. At some point I even started buying in bulk because of future use, it was a crazy experience…
As a freshman i was never the cooking type, i mostly eat prepared meals outside, noodles especially, but when everything took a great turn, i started buying soup and swallows from vendors. It was either that or hunger lol…
Honestly, i learnt a lot during this phase. I came to realize the importance of budgeting, especially as a student. I also started weighting my needs and wants according to their order of relative importance. This helped me greatly…
In conclusion, thanks to hive, my first year experience wasn’t all bad. I made some poor decisions, suffered the consequences and also learnt from them in the process, all of which has contributed to the man i am today…
